... despite all evidence to the contrary. I mostly shut myself off from online life for the last couple of weeks so I could focus on exam revision, which was... not fun, but the exams are finally over, and I think they went OK! Turns out that rocking up to the exams in your new N7 hoodie is a great way to boost your confidence - thank you, Bioware store sale!

That's the good news - the bad news is that I still have a ton of work to do. The term's just starting (yes, the exams were at the start of term, it's a weird system) so I now have assignments to finish, lectures to attend, and a bunch of Shakespeare plays to read. Naturally, my notifications have filled up to a scary degree while I was AWOL, so I'll try to respond to as much of everyone's amazing art and writing as I can, but I hope you'll forgive me if I don't commend on everything, it might take me even more time than all the Shakespeare. :XD:

In terms of art and writing, I'm going to continue working on my ESO fic Drops In The River asap, I have a Dragon Age portrait lined up, and there's even a drawing for my original fic which I may share with the world if I feel confident enough! As for games, um, I know I keep promising to return to ESO, but I just finally started playing the Shadow of Revan DLC for SWTOR (which I got about a year ago but didn't play because I wanted to finish KOTOR first, which was the correct decision because all the references to KOTOR in this DLC make my heart happy). Aaaand it's given me a new OTP to obsess over and has finally made me properly flesh out one of my first ever OCs who's been woefully neglected for almost five years, so I'm probably going to be distracted by that for a while. I will be back to Tamriel soon, I swear. :D

Right, I need to make a start on King Lear. Wish me luck!

I first started playing ESO over a year ago but got distracted by other games, so didn't really get properly into the game for a long time. But recently I finally got some ideas for my characters that motivated me to spend some time in Tamriel again, and :iconshoutfinder: and :iconnorroendyrd: gave me some tips that made the game a lot easier (so I no longer died every five minutes) and this time I think I'm here to stay!

This of course has made me generate a great many more headcanons for my existing characters, and also caused a couple more characters to be created. So I feel like it's time to make a new introductory post for them. Warning: this is going to be very, very long.

Khashani

Khasha2 by Skyflower51

I've already recounted her backstory in the first intro post, but once more can't hurt. I've just copy-pasted it from the last journal, but this time, there's some extra info:

Khasha was born in Torval to a pair of Senche Khajiit. Since Senche are large, voiceless quadrupets, and Khasha is a Cathay - a voiced biped - her parents could not really raise her, and so she was brought up and taught at the local House of Cats. (This is an idea thought up by Vara-Nara, that Khajiit would have a semi-orphanage system for Khajiit in this position, with Khajiit of all forms running a foster home for children like Khasha.) Of course, her parents visited her regularly, but Khasha always felt unhappy that she couldn't grow up with them - and matters were made worse when they had a Pahmar son and an Alfiq daughter.

Khasha's sister Zinathra ('Zinny') was raised with Khasha in the House of Cats, but their brother Dhejar, as a fellow quadruped, spent most of his time with their parents, only coming to the House in order to learn to speak Ta'agra (since I headcanon that Pahmar are able to talk). Khasha felt the most distant from both her parents, being the only biped, and her insecurity and bitterness made her stubborn and argumentative. She was prone to getting into fights and eventually started running with a local street gang. Eventually, the House of Cats kicked her out, and Khasha fell in completely with her gang. It wasn't really the crime that attracted her - it was that she believed she'd found a new family, and honestly thought the gang boss cared for her. She saw him as a father figure - so his inevitable betrayal tore her apart.

She'd been tasked with stealing some important documents from the Dominion army. Khasha stole the documents from a travelling party of soldiers, but when she got caught, her gangmates ditched her, and Khasha was left to be arrested, abandoned by those she'd thought were her friends. Thankfully, Orsaermo, the commander of the Dominion party took pity on her, seeing that she was young and very scared, and suggested she should make amends by joining up with his troops. Khasha decided to seize the chance to reform, but while she was travelling with this squad of soldiers to the nearest city, where she planned to sign on with the army, they were ambushed by the Worm Cult...

After being dragged from the sea by Razum-dar, Khasha had a major rethink of her life. Disillusioned about her gang, she realised how harshly she'd treated her family and how much harm she'd caused as a thief. Since Razum-dar was offering her work for the Dominion she decided she might as well take it, as a way to make amends. And then Queen Ayrenn of all people asked Khashani to work for her, and called her a friend... and suddenly Khashani forged an iron-clad devotion to the throne. It's definitely partly to do with her desires for a parental figure she can actually speak to, but it's also that Khasha thinks Ayrenn is the best person alive for seeing any worth in a ragged, worthless street kit like her, and she plans to repay that faith with as much loyalty as she has to give. Ayrenn could probably ask her to jump off a cliff and she'd do it without even checking to see if there was water at the bottom.

As for Razum-dar, Khasha is equally grateful and loyal to him - he's the one who got her involved in this, after all - but since he's a roguish Khajiit like her she finds it a lot easier to see him as an equal and not someone to be hero-worshipped. I headcanon that they start a friends-with-benefits relationship sometime during their adventures in Auridon, but in time, it'll grow into more... though I'm not sure what it'll take to prompt either of them to have the 'Oh sweet Alkosh, what are these? Feelings?' epiphany. I'm very much leaning towards Khasha's siblings deciding 'this is ridiculous' and having very obvious conversations when they know Raz and/or Khasha is listening about 'Hey, did you hear Khasha talking about how much she cares about Raz?' (Yeah, I'm studying Much Ado About Nothing right now. Sue me.)

On the subject of Khasha's siblings... After learning from a former gangmate of Khasha's that she's no longer with the gang, Dhejar persuades Zinathra that they should go and find her. It takes a long time, but the eventually catch up with her on Auridon and become a three feline sibling team:

The Torval Family by Skyflower51

Dhejar is the definition of 'looks like he could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll' - sweet, gentle, playful and devoted to his big sisters. The reason he's, um, on fire, is because during the showdown with Estre in Oblivion during the siege of Firsthold, he jumped in between a powerful Daedric curse sent at Khasha by an enraged Estre. One of the Mages' Guild savants was able to contain the curse so it didn't kill him, but he's now stuck with black fur and ever-fiery eyes and paws. Dhejar's condition is the reason Khasha's pursuing the main quest - originally she considered it a) horrible creepy Daedric stuff she wanted nothing to do with and b) a distraction from Doing Her Duty For Queen And Dominion (tm), but after his mishap, she decided that helping the Prophet might eventually lead her to some way to undo the curse. She sees it as her responsibility, since Dhejar wouldn't have been cursed if she'd never run away from home. Dhejar keeps telling her it's not her fault, but it still hasn't helped her self-worth issues any. (And yes, he kinda evokes Alphonse Elric. It was unintentional, but I'm rolling with it.)

Zinathra, meanwhile, is the definition of 'looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you.' She's the cynic of the group, sensible and dryly sarcastic (as much as one can be when you're tiny and can only communicate in Alfiq sign language.) Though Khasha is their leader, Zinny considers herself the only sane Khajiit of the three of them and is constantly trying to talk some sense into her siblings. She is rather bitter about Khasha's running off - as far as she's concerned, as the smallest and the only one who can't speak, she had it much worse but she never became a criminal. All the same, she acknowledges and admires that Khasha has a heroic instinct she just doesn't - if Zinny could choose, they'd all go back home and stop risking their lives for a war she thinks belongs to elves and men. But she knows Khasha's trying to do the right thing, and it would be awkward explaining to her parents why they came home with Dhejar looking like a Halloween ornament, so she's in it to the end.

Kaneeth

Kaneeth2 by Skyflower51

I've done some reworking to this polite little Argonian sorcerer's backstory since the last post. He comes from a tribe from the depths of Black Marsh, and was raised by his grandmother Whispers-To-Water, his parents having died when he was a young child. Whispers brought Kaneeth up on stories of a time when their tribe kept to the old ways of magic, communing peacefully with spirits and staying far away from the darker arts. Their mages knew the ways of the marsh so well that they'd fended off all attacks from Dunmer slavers.

The tribe's current leader, though, was an escaped slave who was so paranoid about being recaptured (even with the Ebonheart Pact in place) that he forced the tribe's mages to engage in dark magic, Daedric summonings, and anything else that he believed would keep them safe from slavery. So Kaneeth was trained in destructive and dark magic, but Whispers secretly taught him her own spells in secret and encouraged him to stand up to the tribe leader. Eventually, after a skirmish with another tribe, Kaneeth was ordered to sacrifice one of the captives in a ritual to gain even more magical power. He refused and released the prisoner instead, earning him exile. So he set out into Tamriel, hoping to learn more about the right and wrong ways to use magic so he could someday return to his tribe and teach them a better way to live.

Having spent several years as a travelling scholar, though, Kaneeth's uncertain if he wants to return - what he really wants is to spend his life travelling and learning as much as he can about magic, and then maybe settle down somewhere and write a nice thesis or two. He uses a lot of Daedric summoning and dark magic, because I love the 'person with evil-seeming powers is actually a sweetheart' trope, and because he's trying to determine whether any kind of magic is inherently evil, or whether some forms are just more prone to being used for evil.

His romantic life has been rather sad so far. During his time in Stonefalls he fell hard for Reesa, the Argonian mage who encouraged him to free rather than enslave the Chimer spirits. The fact that she showed compassion to creatures most wouldn't have considered people made Kaneeth starry-eyed instantly. I headcanon that they spent some weeks working together trying to heal the Stonefalls land, during which Reesa taught him much of what she knew about spirit and nature magic, and they began a sweet but sadly ill-fated relationship. Reesa eventually realised there was no way to repair the land but through her kwama cap ritual, and so Kaneeth had to watch the person he'd hoped to spend his life with sacrifice herself. He will eventually find a second love - I'm sure there's someone else out there who'd be willing to love a gentleman scholar Argonian. (Any suggestions? He's bisexual, and I'm totally up for pairing him with someone else's PC!)

Orsaermo

Orsaermo by Skyflower51

This Altmer templar was meant to just be a character from Khashani's backstory, but he developed a life of his own, so I decided I might as well create him. He's still just level three and has barely even set foot on Khenarthi's Roost, but I do have some backstory and personality worked out for him! He's several centuries old (I blame NorroenDyrd for making me appreciate middle-aged mages so much XD) and has been through a lot in those many, many years.

Orsaermo was born and raised on Alinor, the eldest son of some noble family. He lived a spoiled and carefree childhood, expecting an inheritance of land and riches, but all that changed when he fell in love with Mirazi, one of the family's Khajiit maidservants. His family were not particularly thrilled about it, since they were not particularly open-minded people - to the extent that some of Orsaermo's siblings and cousins joined the Veiled Heritance a few hundred years down the line. So Orsaermo abandoned his noble titles and inheritance and went to set up his own family on Auridon with Mirazi, working as a healer to bring in coin. The two had several children together and lived happily for a long time... but inevitably, Orsaermo had to watch his wife, then his children, age and die.

Though Orsaermo had tried to prepare for it, he had trouble coming to terms with losing his family while he remained almost unchanged. His coping mechanism was to set off and do some travelling around Tamriel. He's lived in many places and been through many lines of work, but hasn't yet grown close to anyone - he did fall in love with a Breton woman during his time in High Rock, but decided against entering into a relationship with her, since he just couldn't bear making another family only to lose it all. Eventually, the formation of the Dominion called him back to the Summerset Isles to enlist in the army - an alliance that promoted equality between the races was something he never thought he'd see and was thrilled to be a part of.

Though his children are long since gone, Orsaermo does have a great many surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he visits frequently and who adore him. His fondness for them is part of the reason he was so kind to Khashani when he met her - some of his grandchildren have had trouble finding the right paths too, and she reminded him of them. Surprisingly, Orsaermo isn't bitter by any means. Though he does feel very separate from everyone around him (since most of his friendships have only lasted a few years), and is often reserved and distant, he truly believes he's spent his centuries well, and doesn't regret a thing. I headcanon that he and Battlereeve Urcelmo are old friends, and often share a drink together when they're off-duty, so he does at least have one person he can open up to. I'm not sure if he'll have another relationship, but it'd be nice - though for his sake, I'd like to pair him up with another mer. He deserves to grow old together with his loved one this time.

Nazmur gra-Sharak

Nazmur by Skyflower51

This Orc Dragonknight is my newest character, freshly created but already with plenty of personality. She comes from a stronghold in Wrothgar, and is the only daughter (along with many rowdy sons) of the chief. She and her brothers were close, if constantly squabbling, and she spent most of her childhood and teen years with them, learning to fight and smith, and punching things. By her mid-twenties, she was widely regarded as the most promising warrior in the stronghold, something she never stopped bragging about. And then everything went very horribly wrong. Sharak stronghold lost a battle with another, more powerful clan, and her father arranged a deal with their conquerors - Sharak would be allowed to remain standing, if Nazmur was given to the other stronghold's chief as a wife.

Nazmur was not consulted about this, and when her father told her, she was both hurt and furious. The other chief had two wives already, and Naz had no desire to spend her days as a trophy. She was Sharak stronghold's greatest warrior, and she deserved better than this. With no further ado, she packed up and left her stronghold. She told herself she didn't care if the stronghold was wiped out - after all, hadn't they betrayed her by handing her over to be a trophy wife?

Of course, once she was on the road, Naz was consumed by guilt over leaving her family to be possibly wiped out, but her stubborn pride and fear of being married off wouldn't let her go back. She became a wandering mercenary, always looking for bigger and better fights. Naz doesn't care all that much about the Covenant, but fighting a war against the rest of Tamriel sounds fun to her, so she's willing to lend her blade to them. All she really wants, though, are some friends she can boast and drink (lots) with at the end of the day. And a girlfriend, if she can find one.

Naz does have an unexpected love - the theatre. Not long after her departure from her stronghold, she met a travelling acting troupe on the road who she journeyed with for a while, and it gave her a passion for the dramatic arts. Whenever there's a play on in whatever city she stops in, she'll always pay to see it - and behind closed doors, she sometimes pulls out a script and starts acting things out. Often, after defeating a worthy foe, she'll perform a dramatic speech. (And yes, this is also a result of my Shakespare studies. Look, I never said I was perfect.)

... Right, that turned out long. I'm sorry. XD Anyway, that's my gang, and if you play ESO I'd love to have them meet your characters! I can't stay online for very long at a time, because my laptop starts its weird rattling if I tax it too much, but I'd love to quest, RP or go dungeon-delving with people while I can. :D (Big Grin)

OC Masterpost

This... has been a long time coming. I’ve made this mostly for my own benefit because it’s pretty convenient to have all these links in one place, but who knows, maybe someone else might be interested. I dunno. XD Anyway, I thought it might be a nice idea to compile a list of all my game OCs from all fandoms, even the ones I never talk about, and add links to their tags on tags on Tumblr (even though some of those tags are empty) Charahub profiles, Pinterest boards and Spotify playlists, where they have them.

Wow, I have a lot of OCs. :D (Big Grin) And you know, I'm kinda proud of myself; despite how many of them there are, I really do feel like every single one of them is unique. And they're all my precious children who I love very much.

Hey, guess what, I'm still alive! Uni life is absolutely crazy, and while I love it, my time and energy are in short supply right now... I'm so sorry about how long I'm taking to reply to things and comment on all your stuff. Please blame my mountain of essays and the innate student need to prize sleep above all other worldly things. XD

I have been managing to spend some free time on my games, though, and I finally finished Knights of the Old Republic, which I've had for over six months but never completed thanks to a horrific crash that erased all my progress. This time, though, I worked out what caused the crash, neatly avoided it, and battled through to the end, and it was amazing. So, so worth it. And because this is me, I'm celebrating finishing the game by doing the obligatory 8 character facts meme! I'm going to try and keep this free of the Big Spoilery Plot Twist in the game, because anyone who doesn't know the twist and thinks they might play this game some day deserves to go into it unspoiled.

Anyway, with no further ado, here's my girl:

Kessany Profile by Skyflower51

Her name is Kessany Kana, Kess to her friends, and she's a Light Side scout, later Jedi Sentinel, romancing Carth. Here's eight facts about her...

1. Kess is, first and foremost, an explorer. Much of her Republic scouting tasks involved heading into uncharted territory, even to uncharted planets, and she absolutely loves the thrill of seeing a horizon no one's ever crossed before and knowing she's about to be the first person to see what lies beyond it. Despite the heavy responsibility that comes with the task, she thinks the quest to find the Star Maps is great fun - how can it not be, when it gives her an excuse to visit a bunch of new worlds?

2. Kess is very much one of my 'jocular adventurer' type OCs (along with Sophina Cousland, Bryony Hawke, Lionel Shepard and Shahra Hath... it's an archetype I heartily enjoy.) And it's no facade to mask insecurity - she really just is that chipper and playful. She throws herself impulsively and completely into everything - be it a swoop race, a battle, a good book, a meal, or love - and will affectionately tease anyone who stays still long enough. It's how she shows that she cares.

3. Since she's an explorer, curiosity is pretty much Kess's defining trait. She always wants to know everything she can about the situation she's in, from the culture and history of the species she encounters, to what lies around the next corner, to every last detail about the people she's travelling with. Her constant nose-poking can get irritating, but she'll quickly back off and apologise if she realises she's getting too personal, and whenever she does unearth something tragic about her friends' pasts (so, y'know, all the time), she's quick to hug them and drop the flippant jokes and questions, instead offering gentle condolences and encouragement.

4. Kessany absolutely loves the stars. She feels they represent her identity as an explorer, and she knows them so well that she can navigate by them no matter what planet she's on - a skill that took her a lot of study. Should the Ebon Hawk ever stop to drift in space, while the crew makes repairs or works out their next destination, she loves nothing more than to don a spacesuit, climb onto the roof of the ship and just lie back, staring upwards. And when Carth finally comes out with his love confession, her response is, 'I love you too, Carth Onasi. More than I love the stars.'

5. On every planet she visits, Kess collects a small portable item - a piece of a wroshyr branch on Kashyyyk, a shelll from the Manaan seabed, a fragment from an ancient carving on Korriban, etc. Her collection is the most precious thing she owns, and when she's practising her Force skills, she often levitates the various objects and keeps them floating around her while she meditates. She even makes the casing of her lightsabres out of the odds and ends in the collection.

6. Despite the rest of the crew's frustration, Kess loves the gizka that invade the Ebon Hawk and spends both a ridiculous amount of time playing with them and a ridiculous amount of credits feeding them. Once they start breeding she has to concede that enough is enough, and she agrees to give them to the animal trader on Manaan... except for one, which she's especially attached to. She calls him Glink and he remains on board as a team pet. Kess spends a lot of time cuddling him for comfort after the big reveal.

7. Even after she becomes a Jedi, Kess never stops considering herself a scout, and it shows in her fighting style. She's constantly ducking out of melee to toss grenades and place mines in her foes' paths. It's a pretty useful tactic, since the Sith who face her expect to be confronted with Force skills and lightsabres, and don't see her various gadgets coming. I even headcanon that she wins the final boss fight by slapping a mini sticky grenade onto Malak without him noticing.

8. (Mildly spoilerish but I'm going to be very very vague about the details) Kessany's first lightsabre is yellow, but gets broken in her fight with Malak on the Leviathan - she was very emotionally shaken by the big reveal, so her fighting skills weren't at their best. Since new canon for lightsabre crystals is that they change colour depending on who chooses them, the crystal Kess collects for her replacement sabre turns purple (the colour associated with Jedi who are closer to the Dark Side than most) reflecting the turmoil of light and dark now inside her. Initially, she hates it, but after what happens in the Rakata Temple, she comes to take pride in it. To her, it reflects that the darkness is part of her - but something she has refused to allow to control her. Her purple blade is a sign of her maturing, it represents her pledge to fight the temptation of the Dark Side... and she reckons it also looks pretty awesome.

(And yes, there's some definite Moana parallels in her character. They weren't intentional, but I decided to roll with it, especially once she ended up on Lehon:
kess1 by Skyflower51

I spent the entire time on the planet singing, 'See the line where the sky meets the sea, it caaaaalls me...')

I'll probably have a stab at drawing her soon. Anyway, this was an amazing game and I’ll probably replay it some time, I already have vague plans for a Jedi Guardian who'll romance Bastila... but for now, I need to decide which game I return to next. Skyrim? Inquisition? Decisions, decisions...

So... if you're wondering where I've been, I'm settling into student life. My first week is over, so now the work really gets started. I'm going to be pretty busy until term's over, but it won't keep me away from DA... though I will need to prioritise my work over commenting, and making art and writing, so I may not be producing all that much stuff until the holidays roll around. And even then I'll probably have another massive reading list to deal with. In terms of commenting, I'm probably going to be a bit slow, but I will try to eventually get around to everything. I apologise in advance if I don't quite manage it. But I'll try my best, and I've got some ideas lined up and a biro portrait in the works, and I'll devote time to them when I can. :)

And speaking of ideas and WIPs...

One or two of you might know that I have an original sci-fi story that I like to play with from time to time. I've got a vague novel-length plot and the setup for more, a cast of characters who I love, various species with Word documents several thousand words long devoted to explaining their biology and culture... and recently I started trying to write down a few little scenes I have in my mind for events of the aforementioned plot. I don't think I'm going to try stringing them together into an actual story for a long time, but if I were to share some of these scraps and snippets with you, would you guys be interested? Or perhaps you'd like to see my massive long species notes? I'd really love to get some feedback!

The second thing is, a long time ago now, I started trying to write out the long-overdue explanation of my Dragonborn J'shana's backstory in a story called Mercy. After over a year of grappling with writer's block on the thing, I think it's time to accept defeat - I just don't have the time or inspiration to finish it, much as it deserves it. What I do have however, is a complete set of plot notes summarising how the story would have developed and ended - so would you like me to share them? I feel bad depriving everyone who was following it of a conclusion.

I think that's it from me for now! Time for me to head to bed...
